From 18 November 2025, Companies House has required all directors and people with significant control (PSCs) of UK registered companies to verify their identity.

Unfortunately for many people the Companies House ID service doesn’t work. In such cases, as a Companies House Authorised Company Service Provider, Legaleze can offer you either an online service or in person at a fee of £55.00. Sometimes the online process fails in which case we can offer the in-person service at no extra cost. The in-person service is available by appointment only at our office at 340 The Crescent, Colchester, Essex CO4 9AD. 

If we are not able to verify your identity, we will refund the fee, subject to the Term described below. 

The online service is usually completed within 24 hours. The in-person service may take slightly longer depending on a mutually agreed date to meet. Both comprise 5 steps.

Step 1

Please send to customerservice@legaleze.co.uk your following details which we will treat as a request to provide the Companies House ID service:

· upload or email to customerservice@legaleze.co.uk a copy of a recent utility bill, bank statement or insurance policy letter bearing your name and home address;

· if you have changed your home address within the last 12 months, upload or email a copy of a utility bill, bank statement or insurance policy letter bearing your name and previous home address;

Step 2

On the same or next business day, we will check your data against a credit file database; this is an ID check only, not a credit search. We will contact you for step 3. In the unlikely event that any problems arise from the check, we will explain and try to resolve the issue with you.

Online service

Step 3

We will send you an online link to an identification service which will ask you to self-verify your face, ID and proof of address documents. If you have any difficulty in doing this, please contact us at customerservice@legaleze.co.uk or on 0203 916 5483

Step 4

When we receive notification that you have completed the self-identification, on the same or next business day we will:

· check the information and documents to the Companies House identity verification standard; and

· send you a Zoom video call invitation to have a brief online meeting.

In person service

Step 3

We will agree a date and time to meet you at our Colchester office and ask you to bring the originals of your:

• UK passport or UK photo driving licence;
• Utility bill, UK bank statement , council tax or insurance policy document bearing your      name and current residential address;
• If your address has changed within the last 12 months, bank statement, council tax      statement or utility bill bearing your name and previous residential address.

Step 4

When we meet on the agreed date, we will check you physically match the ID document. We may ask you to verify your image and photo identity via our online verification application. 

Online and in person service

Step 5

When step 4 is complete, on the same or next business day:

• we will report to Companies House that we have verified your identity to the Companies House identity verification standard
• NB: we will provide to Companies House the email address you have used unless you provide a different one for this purpose
• Companies House will email to you (usually within one hour) your personal 11-character code which you can use to connect your verified identity to the Companies      House records.

Terms

Legaleze Limited offers to provide the identity verification service as an Authorised Company Service Provider in the manner described in the above Service Description (the ID Service) subject to the following terms and conditions:

1.  we do not warrant that the verification will be successful. If we are not able to verify your identity, we will refund the fee provided that the failure to verify was not due to your failure to provide valid documents or accurate information or to provide the same within a reasonable time.

2. the liability of Legaleze and any director, employee or agent of Legaleze whether arising in contract, tort or otherwise in relation to the ID Service shall be limited to £100.00.

3.   the Legaleze Terms and conditions will apply.

4. a contract between us and you will be created upon your email request for the ID Service and our email acceptance of your request.
